The oath of office will be administered to members of the Garden Grove Planning Commission when the panel meets on Thursday.
Approved by the city council at its last meeting to serve a two-year term were Randy Arbgast, Asia Cunningham*, Josh Lindsay*, Matthew Montano, Mark Anthony Paredes, Daisy Perez Castellanos* and John Ramirez*.
(Those marked with an asterisk are holdovers from the previous commission).
In addition to the administration of oaths, there will be the selection of a chair and vice chair for the commission and an orientation on the role of the panel, laws – including the Brown Act on open meetings – and an overview of the general plan, zoning code and municipal code.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
Tree fire threatened GG homes
Fires in several trees in the area of 9th Street and Beta Avenue in Garden Grove threatened two homes, cars and a boat at around 1:50 a.m. Sunday.
Orange County Fire Authority and Anaheim firefighters teamed to extinguish the fires and kept the flames from reaching homes. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fracas at Trump rally in HB
A rally of supporters of former president Donald Trump was held Saturday at the Huntington Beach Pier and violence broke out between that group and counter-protestors.
Two people were struck by skateboards, according to reports. One person was arrested.
The pro-Trump group numbered about 40 people.
