Angels romp; Dodgers lose late

The Los Angeles Angels offense continues to roll as the Halos beat the Oakland A’s 6-0 on Sunday on the road. Logan O’Hoppe got the team rolling with a three-run home run in the fourth and then Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning.

Tyler Anderson (1-0) pitched six shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out four batters while walking two. The bullpen was near-perfect, giving up just one hit and one walk in the last three innings.

With the win the Angels are 2-1 and in second place in the American League West. The Angels will continue their road trip in Seattle against the Mariners (1-3).

The Los Angeles Dodgers (2-2) wasted a strong start by Noah Syndergaard, losing 2-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday when the visitors scored a run in the top of the ninth. A bunt single brought in the D-backs winning run.

Syndergaard pitched six innings, giving up four hits and just one earned run while striking out six.

The Blue Crew mustered just four hits and scored the only run on a home run in the first by Will Smith. The Dodgers, despite the loss, are in a four-way tie for first in the National League West.

Next up is a series starting Monday hosting the Colorado Rockies (2-2).

In the NCAA Women’s Basketball final in Sunday, LSU defeated Iowa 102-85 in the highest-scoring title game in tournament history. Jasmine Carson scored 22 points off the bench to lead the Tigers.

Ducks suffer 8th straight loss

The Anaheim Ducks blew leads of 2-0 and 4-3 and went on to lose  5-4 to the Calgary Flames on the road Sunday night.

Frank Vatrano scored two goals and Max Comtois and  Scott Harrington each tallied but it wasn’t enough as Michael Stone scored the game-winner at 17:22 of the third period.

With the loss, the Ducks are 23-44-10. good for last place in the NHL Pacific Division. Anaheim has lost nine of 10 games and eight in a row. They’ll be next in action on Wednesday hosting the Edmonton Oilers at Honda Center.
