Talks resume on debt limits

Talks on the national debt limit will resume on Monday, as the deadline of June 1 gets closer.

According to The New York Times, President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy have agreed to meet on Monday afternoon in an attempt to re-start negotiations.

The White House wants to preserve some of its priorities in the federal budget, while Republicans are demanding major cuts in spending.

If the debt limit is not raised by Congress by June 1, Uncle Sam goes into default with possibly damaging consequences to the economy.

$375m more for Ukraine defense

President Joe Biden announced Sunday that the United States was going to provide $375 million more in ammunition and equipment to Ukraine in its war against Russian invaders.

Biden made his offer of more help at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to United Press International.

Partly cloudy skies continued to be the forecast for the West Orange County area for the coming week. Monday should have a daytime high of 71 with and overnight low of 60. Tuesday and Wednesday look cooler at 68 and Thursday and Friday cooler yet at 65.
