First in a series of stories about the fall 2023 football schedule for area schools.

Garden Grove High will open the season on Friday, Aug, 18 visiting Bellflower High in a non-league contest at 7 p.m.

The Argonauts were Big Four champions in 2023, posting a 10-2 record overall and advanced to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 9 playoffs.

The Buccaneers were co-champs in the Mid Cities League and an overall mark of 11-3 and league mark of 3-1 and advanced to the CIF-SS Division 11 title game, losing 27-14 to Walnut.

• Aug. 25 hosting Pacifica at Monsoor Stadium.

•  Sept. 1 vs. Santa Ana; Sept. 8 hosting Gahr; Sept. 15 vs. Torrance, Sept. 22 hosting Western.

•  Oct. 5 hosting Laguna Beach; Oct. 13 vs. Marina; Oct 20 hosting Segerstrom; Oct. 27 hosting Katella.
