With a strong pitching performance byTony Gonsolin and timely hitting, the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to own August with a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.
Now 70-46 overall and 10-1 for the month, the Blue Crew leads the National League West by 8.5 games and has won seven straight games.
Gonsolin (8-4), worked six innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. He struck out six batters and walked one.
The Dodger offense rode on home runs: one each by Will Smith (his 15th), James Outman (14th) and Amed Rosario (sixth).
Julio Urias (9-6) will get the start for Sunday’s game against the Rockies.
Angels continue to slide, lose 11-3
As with Friday’s loss, the Los Angeles Angels fell behind early and stayed behind losing 11-3 to the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on Saturday.
The Astros roughed up Tyler Anderson (5-4) with six hits and seven earned runs in 4.2 innings. He walked three batters and struck out six.
Leading 7-2, the home team closed the issue with four runs in the eighth, all of them off Jaime Barria, who gave up four hits and walked two batters in one inning.
The Angels are now 58-60, fourth place in the American League West and 6.5 games back in the AL wild card race.
On Sunday, the Angels will send Chase Sileth (3-1) to the mound.
