New cases dip; still top 1,000

THE NUMBER of confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County County is down this week (Shutterstock).

The number of confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County this week has declined, but remains about 1,000 for the third consecutive week.

According to the county health care agency, the tally of new cases through Aug. 30 is 1,053. That’s below last week’s recent peak of 1,258.

The number of COVID-19 cases to date is put at 732,652. The death toll is at 8,277 for Orange County.

Over the past several weeks, new cases in Southern California have risen, but are still below the numbers at the same time in 2022.

Public health officials are recommending that people wear masks around others when experiencing symptoms such as a cough, runny nose and/or sore throat.

Washing your hands with soap and water after touching surfaces in public places such as stores, public restrooms, offices, etc. is recommended.

People are also urged to keep up their COVID-19 vaccinations.
