A false report of a “student with a gun” led to a lockdown and search at La Quinta High School in Westminster on Monday morning.
According to the Westminster Police Department, officers were dispatched to 9:36 a.m. to the school at 10372 McFadden Ave. in response to a claim that a student was threatening to shoot people.
Officers arrived at LQHS within minutes and began their search of the campus. It was determined that it had been a “swatting” call, in which police are summoned as a prank. A similar incident had happened on Sunday in Florida using a fictitious phone number.
Determining that there was no danger, the lockdown was lifted. The WPD Detective Bureau will be following up the investigation of the incident.
