La Quinta moves into Grove lead

La Quinta took the inside lane to the Garden Grove League football title Friday night with a 42-36 double overtime victory over Santiago.

Trailing 22-14 at halftime the Aztecs rallied for the win to put their GGL record at 3-0 (6-2 overall). The Cavaliers are 0-3, 3-5.

What allowed the blue-and-gold to move alone into first was Bolsa Grande’s 21-18 loss  to Rancho Alamitos. The Matadors are now 5-3 overall and 2-1 in league, tied with Rancho at 2-1 (5-3).

Not to be left out in the run for the title and/or a playoff spot, Los Amigos (2-1, 4-4) beat Loara (0-3, 0-8) by 34-6.

Two second-half touchdown passes from Noah Salas to David Carlsson helped Pacifica rally to a 27-19 win over Kennedy in an Empire League win. The Mariners are now 2-6 overall and 1-2 in league.

Western (3-0, 7-1) broke the deadlock for the Orange League lead with a lopsided 56-0 victory over Santa Ana Valley on Friday. The Pioneers are 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league while the Falcons are 3-5 and 2-1.

Huntington Beach scored 30 points in the second quarter and that was enough for a 30-13 win over Fountain Valley in Sunset League acton. The Oilers are now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in league, while the Barons are 3-5 and 0-3.

Ocean View opened Pac 4 action with a 64-0 loss to Laguna Beach. The Seahawks are 4-4 overall and 1-1 in league.
