Water is running out in Gaza

Drinking water is running out in Gaza and Palestinians are hunting for food and shelter as they fearfully await a “significant ground operation” by Israeli forces in response to the attack by the Hamas eight days ago.

According to The New York Times, hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing southward in anticipation of the attack into the Gaza Strip.

At the same time, Israeli air strikes continue in that area, leveling buildings and creating more refugees.

The U.S. State Department said on Saturday that  at least 29 Americans had been killed in the fighting.

Heathcare workers get a raise

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that will raise the minimum wage for many healthcare workers.

According to USA Today, the new “bottom” wage for most will be $25 an hour, but some will be paid less based on the number of employees at a facility, and other factors.

The law will go into effect on June 1, 2024.

Sports: Tough day for UCLA, USC

Both UCLA and USC suffered losses in college football play on Saturday.

UCLA lost 36-24 to Oregon State, falling to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Pac-12 play. Carson Steele rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown for the Bruins, while Dante Moore was 14-33 for 165 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted three times.

USC lost 48-20 to Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend, Indiana in one of the most one-sided Fighting Irish wins over Trojans in the series history.

Caleb Williams passed for 199 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted three times. USC is now 6-1 overall, while Notre Dame goes to 6-2.
