Football quarterfinals are on

THE ROAD to a CIF-SS football title continues on Friday (Shutterstock).

Six high school football teams from our West Orange County area won their first round CIF-SS playoff games. Now we will see which of them can make a strong run toward a possible title.

Here’s the lineup of games. All games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.on Friday.

Quarterfinal matchups look like this:

  • Division 5: Apple Valley (6-4) at Western (10-1)
  • Division 6: Ontario Christian (9-2) at Huntington Beach (5-6)
  • Division 9: Rio Hondo Prep (10-1) at Orange (7-4)
  • Division 11: Cantrell-Sacred Heart of Mary (9-2) at Westminster (8-3)
  • Division 13: Walnut (5-6) at Los Amigos (7-4) at Bolsa Stadium.
  • Division 14: Bell Gardens (6-5) at Ocean View (6-5).

Outstanding performances from last week

  Anthony Luna (Western) passed for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

  J.J. Amezcua (Western) caught four passes for 104 yards and  a touchdown.

  Josh Faulkner (Western) rushed for 102 yards and had 36 yards receiving.

   Brady Edmunds (Huntington Beach) passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns.

  Tyler Young (Huntington Beach) rushed for 93 yards and one TD.

  Hunter Gray (Huntington Beach) caught seven passes for 164 yards and two scores.

  Benny Burns (Westminster) passed for 110 yards and rushed for 55 more.

  Ezekiel Cedillo (Westminster) rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 42 yards.

  Pedro Hernandez (Los Amigos) rushed for 144 yards and two TDs.

  Ethan Nguyen (Bolsa Grande) passed for 83 yards and two TDs and rushed for 63 yards  more.

  David Nguyen (Bolsa Grande) ran for 110 yards and one touchdown.

  Frankie Ammenta (Ocean View) passed for 75 yards.

  William Pardue (Ocean View) rushed for 217 yards and three scores.

   Jayden Trujillo (Ocean View) rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
