The public hearing for the proposed Bolsa Chica Senior Living project was tabled in order to hold more public outreach during the Tuesday night Huntington Beach City Council meeting.
The applicant requested the council to move the public hearing for the project to provide the public with more information. The city council unanimously approved moving the public hearing to an uncertain date. The project will be re-noticed in the future.
The proposed project is to redevelop an approximately 3.10-acre project site into a new five-story convalescent facility. The facility would have 202 total units, an underground parking garage, and landscape improvements with on-site alcohol sales and consumption. Also, the 298,000 sq. ft facility would have a maximum height of 65 ft.
During the public comment section of the meeting, many spoke in opposition to the project.
A member of the planning commission, Butch Twining, commented that he was one of the six votes in August who voted to approve this project, but after talking to many residents, he said his initial vote was a mistake.
“I was quickly reminded by dozens and dozens of residents that I was wrong. I thought this was a good project without talking to the constituency. My bad. That was not good,” said Twining.
Twining also expressed relief when the council tabled the item.
“I hope you guys do your town halls and find a solution to this project. It just can’t be that big in Bolsa Chica and Warner,” said Twining.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 21 in its council chambers at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue).
