Two West Orange County area teams have won CIF-SS championships in traditional competitive cheer. Garden Grove High took the title in Division 4AA, while Marina High of Huntington Beach triumphed in
Division 4A in the competition at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside on Saturday night.
Other Orange County schools winning titles were Mater Dei (Division 1) and Santa Margarita (Division 1AA).
This was the 12th CIF-SS title won by the Argonauts and the first in this sport.
The CIF Southern Regionals will be held this coming Saturday (Jan. 27) at Mira Costa High Manhattan Beach with competition beginning at 9 a.m. The lineup of teams invited to compete has not been finalized.
Lobos, Saxons in the GGL drivers’ seats
With their 55-46 win over La Quinta on Monday, the Los Amigos boys basketball team has opened up a two-game lead in the Garden Grove League race with four games to play.
The Lobos (6-0 in league play, 16-6 overall) will face a tough challenge on Wednesday when they travel to play a good Rancho Alamitos (3-3, 14-10) team, in the Vaquero gym. Rancho helped Los Amigos on Monday by defeating second place Santiago (4-2, 11-13) by 64-59.
In the girls’ race, Loara (6-0, 14-8) is in the lead over Santiago (4-1, 7-16) and La Quinta (4-2, 12-12). The Saxons will visit La Quinta on Wednesday in a key GGL matchup.
