Big game: Oilers at Mariners Friday in duel of softball titans

PACIFICA will host Huntington Beach in Friday in a big softball game (Flickr).

One of the more interesting high school sports matchups of the 2024 season is scheduled for Friday when the Pacifica High softball team takes on Huntington Beach High at the Mariner diamond at 6 p.m.

The M’s are 10-0 and ranked first in the nation by MaxPreps.com. They are led by senior infielder Annika Sogsti, who is batting .565 with three home runs, seven runs scored and a slugging percentage if 1,000.

Kaniya Bragg has three home runs and an on-base percentage of .484. Top pitcher is Bryanne Nalley with an 0.82 ERA. She’s gone 51 innings and yielded just 31 hits and 10 walks while striking out 56 batters.

The Oilers are 6-1 and ranked 27th in the nation. Morgan Drotter has a .542 batting average and a .560 on-base percentage. Zoe Prystajko had a 0.82 ERA for the orange and black. She’s also the team captain.

Half-dozen locals ranked by CIF-SS

Six West Orange County baseball and softball teams are named in this week’s CIF-SS polls as announced on Monday.

In baseball, Huntington Beach us fourth in Division 1, and Bolsa Grande is second in Division 8,

In softball, there was no report for Division 1, but Los Amigos is fourth in Division 7 with Western in 14th. Orange is first in Division 8 and Bolsa Grande is 15th.
