What’s probably the most massive civic development project in city history goes before the Garden Grove City Council when it meets on Tuesday night.

The council will be asked to consider approval of an agreement with Edgemoor Garden Grove Civic Partners for the design and construction of the Civic Center Revitalization Project.

If approved by the council, that will clear the way for building a new police headquarters facility – connected to a multi-story parking structure – and a new civic center park.

The project is expected to cost $152 million and will be financed in part by bonds.

According to published plans, the Garden Grove Main Branch Library, located at Stanford Avenue and Euclid Street will be closed for renovation. The ponds and other waterscape behind the library will be removed and become the site for the police facility and parking structure at Acacia Parkway and Euclid Street.

The existing fire facility – now operated by the Orange County Fire Authority – will remain. To the east will be a new 2.7-acre

park, the final design of which has not been completed.

Also on the agenda is the Community Spotlight honoring Joe Hammer as the Cypress College Americana Citizen of the year, and proclamations recognizing April to be Donate Life Month, Arab American Heritage Month and Black April Month.

The council will meet in the Community Center, 11300 Stanford Ave., at 6:30 p.m.
