Football legend, actor and acquitted murder suspect O.J. Simpson has died at the age of 76 of cancer.

Simpson won the 1967 Heisman Trophy as the outstanding college football player as he led the USC Trojans to a national championship.

He had a successful though frustrating career as a running back for the Buffalo Bills, followed by series of acting jobs in film comedies.

But he will forever be remembered as the man arrested and accused of killing his ex-wife and her companion in 1994. After a year-long legal process, the jury – to the surprise of many – acquitted Simpson.

He was back in jail later as was convicted of armed robbery in Las Vegas in 2007 as he tried to recover sports memorabilia he had once owned. He served nine years in prison before his release.

Interpreter stole $16m, say Feds

Ippei Mizuhara, the former interpreter for baseball star Shohei Ohtani, was charged Thursday by federal prosecutors with stealing $16 million from Ohtani.

That’s up from the $4 million he was previously accused of taking to cover gambling debts. The U.S. Attorney’s office claimed that Mizhura set up a bank account in 2018 from which he made unauthorized transfers, having allegedly changed the settings on the account so Ohtani wouldn’t be notified of the movement of money.

He is also accused of impersonating Ohtani in bank conversation with bank officials.  There’s no evidence that Ohtani had authorized the transfers.

Angels, Dodgers idle; Kings win

Both LA-OC baseball teams had Thursday off.  The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in action Friday hosting the San Diego Padres, while the Los Angeles Angels will be in Boston to take on the Red Sox.

The Los Angeles Kings beat the Calgary Flames 4-1. Viktor Arvidsson scored twice for the winners, who are now 42-26-11.

The nice weather we’ve been having in the West Orange County area will yield to something a bit more wintry. The forecast for Friday is for a daytime high of 66 with an overnight low of 56 with morning clouds and afternoon sun. Saturday will be cooler with a high of 63 (49) with afternoon rain.  Showers are expected on Sunday with a high of 61 (50). Things will warm up somewhat with a high of 66 (51).
