For once, the star performance from the Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t come from those with a bat, although they contributed a lot on Tuesday night as well.
Tyler Glasnow struck out 14 batters as the Blue Crew defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-3 in Minneapolis. Glasnow (3-0) pitched seven shutout innings, yielding just three hits and no walks.
He tied his personal best in strikeouts.
Power of a different kind was provided by Will Smith and James Outman, who each hit three-run home runs, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. Shohei Ohtani returned to earth – at least for one game – with a modest 1-for-5 night.
With the win, the Dodgers are 10-4 and lead the National League West by 3.5 games over the San Diego Padres.
The Los Angeles Angels (6-5) remain tied for first place in the American League West after losing 6-4 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Anaheim on Tuesday.
After Mike Trout hit his sixth home run of the season to give the Halos a 2-0 first inning lead, the Rays edged in front and extended their lead. The Orange County team was outhit 12-6; no Angel had more than one hit.
Patrick Sandoval had a tough night, giving up six hits and four earned runs in five innings. He struck out six and walked three.
