Huntington Beach High’s baseball team hammered Edison 16-3 on Friday, locking up at least a tie for the Sunset-Surf title.

The Oilers are 18-7 overall and 6-1 in league, two games ahead of second place Los Alamitos and Fountain Valley (both 4-3) with two games to play.

However, the orange-and-black will close out the league schedule with two games against the Griffins, leaving open the possibility of a title tie if Los Al can win both games.

Against Edison, the Oilers blew the game up early with 13 runs in the second inning. John Petrie was 1-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Trevor Goldenetz was 3-for-3 and scored one run.

In the Empire League, Pacifica bested Kennedy 7-3 to stay unbeaten and atop the EL at 8-0 (18-6 overall).

The Mariners are a game ahead of second place Cypress, which defeated Crean Lutheran by  8-0.  The M’s lead the Empire by one game over the Centurions and the two teams will meet next Tuesday and Thursday (April 23 and 25) to decide the crown.

On the softball side, Garden Grove thumped Katella 13-0 in Golden West League play. Kayden Connaty pitched a two-hit shutout for the Argonauts in a shortened game.

Jasmine Santos led the red-and-white hit parade with a 3-for-4 performance. She scored three runs, drove in four and homered.

The Argos are battling Segerstrom for the GWL pennant. Grove won the first meeting, 4-3, and the two teams will meet again on Wednesday to settle the situation on the final day of the season.
