Liquor sales in mixed-use areas?

Mixed-use development – projects which combine residential, retail and commercial uses in one area or even one building – is becoming increasingly popular.

But typically, zoning codes don’t allow the sale of alcohol in areas where residences are constructed. To deal with this issue, the Stanton City Council on Tuesday will consider an ordinance amending the code and setting standards for alcohol sale in those locations.

Consideration of the ordinance comes after the city received a request to build a “high-end” neighborhood market in a mixed-use area.

Also on the agenda are:

  • extension of a previously-approved urgency ordinance declaring a moratorium on the establishment of new medical services facilities as well as expansion, enlarging or altering any such existing enterprises. The extension would add 10 months and 15 days to the moratorium in addition to the original 45 days of the ordinance.
  • consideration of a social host ordinance that would hold hosts of events responsible for the conduct of their guests.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.
