A piercing noise sounded by a smoke alarm woke a family in their home on Westminster, helping them escape from a fire in their garage early Wednesday morning.
According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the alarm summoned firefighters shortly after midnight in the single family home on Cynthia Drive (near Springdale Street). Arriving crews from OCFA found heavy smoke coming from the garage as the blaze advanced toward the main house.
The firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading further. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was summoned to provide assistance to the family. Fire investigators responded to the scene to determine the cause.
