Four suspects are being sought in an incident in which shots were fired into an occupied vehicle in Westminster on Thursday afternoon, leading to several crashes and a lengthy road closure.
According to WPD Commander Andy Stowers, the incident took place in the intersection of Bolsa Avenue and Brookhurst Street before 3:45 p.m.
Arriving officers found an abandoned car with several bullet holes. Witnesses said the vehicle had three passengers, who left the scene on foot.
They were located by police and none of them had been wounded. The investigation showed that the victim’s vehicle was moving northbound on Brookhurst and stopped for a red light at Bolsa.
Two suspects then exited other stopped vehicles and approached the victim’s vehicle from behind. One of the suspects fired five to six times at the car, causing the driver of that vehicle to drive forward in attempt to escape the gunfire.
That resulted in collisions with “numerous” other vehicles. The victims ran from their automobiles while the suspects left in their vehicle.
The incident resulted in a long closure of the intersection. The suspects are described as four males, two of them about 18 to 25 years old and two of unknown ages.
Anyone with information about the incident – which is believed to be gang-related – is asked to call Detective Burton at (714) 548-3840 or the WPD Watch Commander at (714) 548-3767.
