Must-win matchups coming?

BOLSA GRANDE upset La Quinta in their Tango League opener (GGUSD photo).

Well, the leagues may be strange this year, but the action and spirit looks pretty familiar. Last week was the first week of conference play for most football teams serving our West Orange County cities, setting up some early “must-win” matchups for those dreaming of league titles and CIF-SS playoff berths.

Our High 5 for Week Seven looks very familiar with the same five in the same place as last week.

The prime contests this week look like Friday’s Epsilon League clash between La Habra’s Highlanders and Huntington Beach’s Oilers, along with the Sigma League game on Thursday in which Rancho Alamitos and Los Amigos – the teams that tied last year for the Garden Grove League crown – going at it on Thursday..

Last week’s biggest upset was Bolsa Grande’s 48-26 triumph over previously unbeaten La Quinta in their Tango League game.

Here’s the schedule for area football contests this week. As always, games, times, locations, etc. are subject to change without notice.

Unless otherwise noted, the games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
