Candidates hit the swing states

ELECTION DAY is two weeks away (Shutterstock).

The Democratic and Republican candidates for the presidency continued their efforts in swing states on Monday.

According to the Associated Press, Vice President Kamala Harris was in suburban Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, states in the “blue wall” that put Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the White House previously.

She spoke with Republican former congresswoman Liz Cheney, who counseled members of her party unhappy with Trump but reluctant to vote for a Democrat to “vote your conscience and not ever have to say a word to anybody.”

Trump was in Swannanoa, North Carolina looking at hurricane damage on Monday and repeated the unsupported claim that the Federal Emergency Management Agency was hampered in its relief efforts because it had spent its budget providing aid to illegal aliens.

“If they’re doing a poor job, we’re supposed to not say it?” Trump said in response to a  question.

Central Park Five sue Trump

Members of the “Central Park Five,” men accused and then exonerated in the rape of a jogger in 1989, have filed a defamation lawsuit against former president Donald Trump.

According to United Press International, during his Sept.10 debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump claimed the five men had pled guilty and that “they badly hurt a person, killed a person ultimately.”

The five men did not plead guilty, and were cleared of any wrongdoing. No one died in the incidents and the real rapist was identified and confessed to the crime. The plaintiffs are seeking $75,000 in damages.

Sports: World Series starts Friday

The MLB World Series will commence on Friday with the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the New York Yankees.

Until then, there’s other pro sports action to view. The Los Angeles Chargers are on Monday Night Football playing the Arizona Cardinals.

On Tuesday the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Anaheim Ducks will host the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings visit the Vegas Golden Knights.

Weather: Headed toward cooler days

A cooling trend will be in place for our West Orange County cities. The forecast for Tuesday is for a daytime high of 82 with an overnight low of 56 under sunny skies.

Wednesday will cool to 81 (57) with partly cloudy skies. On Thursday, we revisit the 70s with 78 (57) and with clouds in the morning and sun in the afternoon. And even cooler on Friday to 76 (56) and partly cloudy skies.
