Edison, Pacifica on the road for CIF-SS football semifinals

EDISON and Pacifica are in CIF-SS semifinal playoff games on Friday (HBUHSD photo).

The season started with 13 local high school teams in the West Orange County area fielding football teams, and now – after the regular season and two rounds of playoff games – just two remain.

Edison High’s Chargers will take on Vista Murrieta in a CIF-SS Division 3 semifinal game on Friday on the road.
Meanwhile, the Pacifica Mariners visit St. Anthony Saints in a Division 10 semifinal on Friday.

The green-and-gold are 8-4 and have won their two playoff games with identical scores of 24-0 over North High of Torrance and Bonita High of LaVerne.

EHS features a balanced offense with Julius Gillick having rushed for 27 touchdowns on the season, while featuring two quarterbacks in Sam Thomson and Savelio Miumata have thrown for 15 scores combined.

The Broncos defeated Villa Park and Cajon by a combined score of 43-20. They’re led by quarterback Bryson Beaver, who has thrown for 3001 yards and 32 touchdowns. He’s also carried the ball for 343 yards and two scores. Their top rusher is Devon Leonard, who has carried 127 times for 606 yards.

As for Pacifica, the Mariners have won seven straight games, including wins over La Canada and The Brentwood School. The top Mariner passer is James Anema, who has thrown for 872 yards and 10 touchdowns in six games.

Leading the M’s rushing effort are Noah Lewis (320 yards), Ma’kai Brown (464 yards) and Miguel Campos (309 yards).

St. Anthony has won four straight after finishing second in the Del Ray League.
