Final approval voted for Bolsa Chica Senior Care project

ARTIST’S RENDERING of proposed Bolsa Chica Senior Care Center.

The controversial Bolsa Chica Senior Care Community Project received its final approval on a 4-3 vote Tuesday night by the Huntington Beach City Council.

Approved for a second reading and adoption was the development on a 3.10-acre site at 4952 and 4972 Warner Ave. (near Bolsa Chica Street), of a project which would include 25 memory care units, 134 assisted living units and a subterranean parking garage. There would be on-site indoor and outdoor amenities and dining facilities with alcohol service.

The vote – as it was for first reading on Oct. 18 – was Councilmembers Tony Strickland, Dan Kalmick, Rhonda Bolton and Natalie Moser in favor and opposed were Mayor Gracey Van Der Mark, Vice Mayor Pat Burns and Councilmember Casey McKeon.

At issue was whether the project was a residential or commercial project and whether it was a “high-density development.”
