Changing of the guard for area city councils, school boards

A LOT OF us have the Thanksgiving holiday off, but the Orange County Fire Authority – which provides fire, rescue and paramedic service to Garden Grove, Stanton and Westminster – is on the job, as evidenced by the aftermath of this third-floor apartment fire in Westminster. Quick action by the OCFA kept the blaze from spreading to other units in the complex (OCFA photo).

We at the Tribune are taking a small break from reporting because of the Thanksgiving holiday week, but here’s a few notes about local news of interest.

Councils, board to reorganize

It’s time for the city councils of Garden Grove and Huntington Beach – as well as the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education – to reorganize by seating new members and electing their own officers.

• Garden Grove City Council will seat a new mayor and three new members of the city council when it meets on Tuesday. The new mayor will be Stephanie Klopfenstein, and new council members will be Ariana Arestegui (District 6), Philip Nguyen (District 2) and Yesenia Muneton (District 5). The council will meet at 6:30 p.m.

• Huntington Beach City Council will elect a new mayor from among its members, also on Tuesday. New members are Chad Williams, Butch Twining and Don Kennedy. Also new will be Lisa Lane Barnes as city clerk. The council will meet at 6 p.m.

• The GGUSD Board will see the return for another term of incumbent members Terri Rocco (Area 1), Dina Nguyen (Area 5) and Walter Muneton (Area 3). The board will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

  1. I want a recount on the Steel / Trans Election. Why did it take almost a month to count the votes? Sorry, I do not trust any Democrat Politicians anymore. Does anyone?
