The 2024 high school football season may seem to be over, but it’s not. Edison High, which won the CIF-SS Division 3 title 35-21 last week over Simi Valley is now in the CIF Southern California Regionals.

The Chargers (10-4) will host Granite Hills (11-2) of San Diego on Saturday in the Division 1-A final in the friendly confines of Sheue Field on the Huntington Beach High School campus.

If they win, they’ll plays in the CIF State Championship game on on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3:30 p.m. at Saddleback College against the winner of the northern regional.

The Green-and-Gold look like a good bet to win that one. They’ll have star running back Julian Gillick, back from a suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct and will be playing in their home stadium.

Basketball is underway with pre-league and tournament action having begun. The Pacifica boys’ team is looking good with a 6-1 mark so far. Los Amigos (4-2) and Santiago (5-3) are worth attention as well.
We’ll focus more on that starting on Saturday.

What Does It Take?
The final Orange County high school rankings are out and it seems like something’s amiss.
Los Amigos, which finished with an 11-1 record and a league title, couldn’t crack the top 25, and Edison, which will probably end up with a state title (see above) is tied for ninth.
But what else might be expected from a poll in which five of the top seven teams are private schools which can pull athletes from anywhere?

Wet warriors of West Orange County
Three players from our West Orange County area have been honored as All-CIF/SS in boys’ water polo. They include:
• Division 1: Isacc Squires (Huntington Beach)
• Division 5: Hieu Trinh (Garden Grove), Santiago Valle (Ocean View).
