The decision on approving a plaque featuring the letters “ M A G A” to be displayed at the Central Library wasn’t the only action on a contentious issue made at Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

Also on Tuesday, the council voted 7-0 to receive a report on a citizen’s initiative to repeal an ordnance regarding review of material in the city libraries and the creation of a community-parent review board and direct staff to come back with a resolution calling for an election within 30 days.

Additionally, the council voted 7-0 in favor of an agreement between the city and Flowers in the Sky Entertainment LLC for the management and operation of the “Symphony of Flowers” light show in Huntington Beach Central Park East.

Critics have claimed the event would risk environmental damage to the park, including dislocation of wildlife.

The council also voted 7-0 in favor of appointing Chief Assistant City Attorney Michael Vigliotta as city attorney in the wake of Michael Gates leaving to work for the Department of Justice.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 4.
