S&P plunge is a ‘correction’

The Standard and Poor 500 on Thursday plunged, reaching a 10.1 percent decrease from its peak, signaling what’s called a “correction” which historically has frightened some investors about the possibility of a recession.

Rapid changes in economic policy from The White House are blamed for the declines in all the major stock exchanges, according to The New York Times.

A correction doesn’t always lead to recession, in fact – it usually doesn’t. But there’s concern that the swings in stock could discourage investors from purchasing on Wall Street, which could slow down the stock exchanges and have other effects.

“I’m not concerned a little bit about this bit of volatility over three weeks,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Schumer may back GOP spending bill

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York will consider a Republican bill to fund operation of the federal government.

According to The Associated Press, he told colleagues that while the Republican bill was bad, he thought a shutdown would be worse.

“For Donald Trump, a shutdown would be a gift. It would be the best distraction he could ask for from his awful agenda,” sad Schumer.

The bill has already passed the House of Representatives and the Senate is expected to vote on Friday.
