A proposed 26-unit condominium complex won approval from the Garden Grove City Council.

At Tuesday’s meeting the council voted 6-1 in favor of the adoption of an ordinance for the construction of the project on a 1.8-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Russell Avenue and Kerry Street.

The ordinance calls for a change in zoning from single-family to multiple residential and planned unit development.

Councilmember George Brietigam (District 1) cast the sole dissenting vote.

Also approved was an agreement with Chipman Relocation & Logistics of $80,000 for moving services associated with the relocation of the police department to its new facility at Euclid Street and Acacia Parkway.

The move won’t be simple; it’s estimated to take place over “multiple weekends.”

Additional personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority from Fire Station 81 will be moved to accommodate hazard materials abatement and demolition of the existing GGPD building.

The OCFA personnel and equipment will be returned to Station 81 once the facility is ready to be occupied.

Much of the early portion of the meeting was involved with public meeting comments in which most of the speakers expressed their frustration with what they felt was the “inaction” of the city and the city council regarding the hazmat crisis at GKN Aerospace facility in May.
