Burglary call leads to ‘drug lab’

Officers responding to a report of a possible pre-dawn break-in uncovered what is allegedly an illegal drug manufacturing operation in Westminster.

According to Commander Andrew Stowers of the WPD, the call came into police at 4:03 a.m. on Friday. The location of the reported incident was in the area of Beach and Garden Grove boulevards.

A report of “several individuals attempting to enter a building brought officers. The suspects had left before police could arrive, but there were “clear signs” that a burglary attempt had occurred.

Officers secured the building and discovered “materials and equipment consistent” with a drug lab. WPD detectives were summoned, as well as the Orange County Bomb Squad, Orange County Fire Authority’s HAZMAT Team and federal law enforcement officers.

Several nearby businesses were temporarily evacuated while the hazardous materials team assessed and secured the site.

The investigation is continuing and no arrests have yet been made. Anyone with more information on this incident is asked to call Detective J. Black at (714) 548-3835.
