As many as 350,000 migrants from Venezuela living in the United States will lose temporary legal protections, if the Supreme Court grants a request from the Trump administration to “put on hold” a lower federal court ruling that blocked plans by the Justice Department to remove them from “Temporary Protected Status,” which would permit the deportation of the migrants.
According to the Associated Press, currently there are an estimated 600,000 undocumented Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians in the U.S, under the TPS, which allows immigrants to remain in America if it’s considered unsafe to return to their country of origin.
The TPS status would have ended on April 7, except for the ruling from U.S. District Judge Edward Chen, stating that there was no evident harm caused by continuing the program.
Trump’s mad at Putin; good news for Ukraine
Better prospects for Ukraine, if not for peace, are emerging on the ongoing struggle against Russia.
The New York Times reports the President Donald Trump has grown impatient with Vladimir Putin, his counterpart from Moscow and has now grown less annoyed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
That’s a long way from the Feb. 28 incident in which Trump expelled Zelensky from the White House after a shouting match. Earlier this week, Trump announced that a deal on mineral revenues with Ukraine had been reached.
A European policy analyst stated “These are very good signs that something might be shifting.” The two presidents – Trump and Zelensky – reportedly had a friendly conversation at the Vatican.
