Free jet from Qatar to Trump?

Look, up in the sky! It could be President Donald Trump flying in a luxury jumbo jet given to him by the royal family of the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar.

The Associated Press is reporting that Trump is “ready to accept” the Boeing 747-8 which could be converted into a “potential presidential aircraft.”

Democrats complained that the “gift” was influence-peddling by Qatar. Trump, in a social media post, said that the exchange was free, while the “Crooked Democrats” insisted that the U.S. pay “top dollar.”

The Constitution prohibits anyone holding a government office from accepting a gift from any “foreign state” without the approval of Congress.

Progress reported in trade talks

“Substantial progress” is being made in trade negotiations with China, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday.

The New York Times reports that the meetings in Geneva may be followed by a formal announcement with details on Monday.

A U.S trade representative told The Times that the “deal” would touch on “national security” concerns but did not mention the issue of tariffs.

Sports: Split decision on the diamond

The Los Angeles Dodgers got three home runs – one each by Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani – as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-1 on Sunday in Phoenix.

Freeman had the best day at bat, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Betts was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one driven in.
Tony Goslin worked five shoutout innings. He gave up three hits while striking out four and walking two.

With the victory, the Blue Crew is 27-14 and still leads the National League West by one game over the San Diego Padres.

In Anaheim, the Los Angeles Angels lost 7-3 to the Baltimore Orioles. Trailing 2-1 after four innings the O’s responded with two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Gunnar Henderson led the charge with a two-run homer snd a double .
As for the Angels, they committed two errors leading to two unearned runs. Mathew Lugo hit a pinch-hit homer in the ninth. and Taylor Ward was 2-for-4 with a single and a double.

Ty Anderson (2-1) pitched fairly well, going five innings and yielding four hits and one earned run. He struck out five batters and walked two.
The Halos are now 16-23, six games out of first in the American League West.

Weather: Spring is back

After some pretty hot days and some cool ones, we’re back to typical spring conditions in our West Orange County cities. The forecast for Monday is for a daytime high of 70 with an overnight low of 58 under mostly cloudy skies. Tuesday should be similar at 70 (55) with partly cloudy diked. Wednesday is expected to warm to 74 (57) and sunny, followed by Thursday at 73 (57) and partly cloudy.
