Zero Weekend nets wins

The first weekend – Weekend Zero, one might say– of local high school play is over.  Seven teams claimed victory over the weekend.

Edmund-Kurtz peel Orange
Brady Edmunds passed for three touchdowns – all of them to Steel Kurtz – as the Huntington Beach Oilers defeated the Orange Panthers 35-18 on Thursday at Fred Kelly Stadium.
The orange-and-black go for a second straight win when they visit Trabuco Hills next Friday night.
Vikes win late vs. Knights
Francis Saporito threw for two touchdowns on Thursday as the Marina Vikings rallied to defeat the Foothill Knights 13-7 at Bill Boswell Stadium.
Next Friday the opponents are the Bruins of Woodrow Wilson High of Long Beach.
In anoher game on Thursday, Western bested Salesian High of Los Angeles 34-31 and will take on Villa Park next Friday.

Lobos outlast the Argos
On Friday night, district rivals Los Amigos and Garden Grove slugged it out on Friday night and the Lobos prevailed 42-36.
Starring for Argonauts was Quentin Pacelli, who rushed for 380 yards and four touchdowns, He averaged 18.1 yards per carry and excited the fans with a 90-yard run.
On defense Noe Calderon sacked the Lobo quarterback three times.
The Argonauts next week will on Friday take on another district rival, playing Pacifica at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in a game scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
The Lobos will play Silver Valley on Friday.

Kennedy sinks Mariners
Pacifica opened its 2025 season with a 35-13 loss to Kennedy High
James Anema passed for two touchdowns for the Mariners, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Fighting Irish.
Pacifica plays Garden Grove next Friday at SoFi Stadium.

Lions caged by Lancers
Westminster lost its opener 28-20 to Sunny Hills on Friday night at home, after being tied 14-all at halftime.
The Lions will next visit Burna Park on Thursday.

Edison defeats Clovis/West
Relying on the passing arm of Sam Thomson, the Edison Chargers defeated West High of Clovis 20-13 on Friday night.
Next up for the green-and-gold will be a game on Thursday against Yorba Linda.

Sentinels shut out
Magnolia had a tough opener on Friday, losing 56-0 to Costa Mesa.
The Sentinels will try again next Friday, visiting Compton Early College.
