Turnabout was fair play for the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night, as they followed up Monday’s 12-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins with a 12-2 victory over them in Anaheim.
The Halos (now 68-77) pounded out 17 hits, including three-run homers by Chris Taylor and Yoan Moncada, who made up for two errors on Monday with three RBIs. Taylor drove in four runs and six Angels had two or more hits.
Mike Trout, moved up to the leadoff DH spot, was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored.
Kyle Hendricks (7-9) pitched well, yielding four hits in seven innings. He struck out six batters and walked one.
Combined with a 6-0 loss by the Athletics to the Boston Red Sox, the Angels now hold a 2.5 game cushion over the As in their battle to remain in fourth place in the AL West and stay out of last place.
The Los Angeles Dodgers also got good news from another stadium. They not only defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-2 at Chavez Ravine, but the San Diego Padres lost 4-2 to the Cincinnati Reds.
That opened up a two-game lead in the NL West.
The Blue Crew got home runs from Mookie Betts (his 17th), Teo Hernandez (23rd) and Freddie Freeman (20th. The win went to Emmet Shehan (6-3).
