JIMMY KIMMEL was suspended from his TV host job. He’s probably not smiling.

The limits of freedom of expression are coming to the forefront as the White House pushes for the punishment of those who offend or criticize. The latest uproar is over ABC’s suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel from his late-night talk show.

According to the Associated Press, Kimmel’s remarks – related to issues surrounding the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk – sparked a sharp response from Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr.

Carr, an appointee of President Donald Trump, called Kimmel’s remarks “truly sick” and suggested that ABC could be punished for “spreading disinformation.”

Critics of the administration argue that ABC’s willingness to punish Kimmel was another example of suppression of freedom of speech in the face of government pressure.

The Walt Disney Co. is working to get the approval of the FCC to acquire the NFL Network for its ESPN network.

Change in vaccine policy seen

The Advisory Community on Immunization Practices of the Department of Health and Human Services appears ready to change its recommendation on vaccinating children.

The New York Times is reporting that the panel will vote against the policy of recommending that children under 4 years of age be vaccinated with a shot that combines protection against measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox.

Still in place is the recommendation to continue those vaccinations separately.

Critics are concerned that separating the inoculations may make it more difficult for parents to get their children immunized.

Sports: Angels lose 6th; Kershaw to retire

The Los Angeles Angels lost their sixth game in a row, falling 5-2 to the Brewers in Milwaukee. The outstanding player for the Halos (69-84) was Christian Moore, who doubled twice, walked once and stole a base. The Angel runs all came on a two-run homer in the top of the fifth by Luis Rengifo. It was his ninth home run of heeasdson.

Clayton Kershaw, one of the all-time most successful pitchers for the Los Angeles Dodgers, announcesd Thursday he was retiring at the end of the season. He’s spent all of his 18-year career with the Dodgers and has won the NL Cy Young Award three times, was the 2014 NL MVP and was named an All-Star 11 times. He also was on two World Series-winning teams in 2020 and 2024.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-1 Thursday night and improved their lead over the second place San Diego Padres to three games. The Blue Crew is 86-67 in the National League West with nine games to play.

IN high school action, Marina (4-1) defeated Esperanza (1-4) in a non-league game on Thursday. Francis Saporito passed for two scores and rushed for 95 yards for the Vikings.

The somewhat hot and muggy weather that’s hit our West Orange County cities this past week is expected to moderate over the next few days. The forecast for Friday is for a daytime high of 81 and an overnight low of 66 with morning clouds and afternoon sun. Saturdy should be slightly warmer at 83 (67) with partly cloudy skies. Mostly cloudy skies are seen for Sunday with cooler temps at 81 (69) and mostly cloudy skies. The work week starts on Monday a bit warmer at 85 (69) with partly cloudy conditions.
