Argos break through with win

After a series of close losses against tough opponents, the Garden Grove High football team finally broke into the win column on Friday night, beating University High of Irvine by 35-14.

The Argonauts, now 1-3, were led by Quentin Pacelli, who rushed for 380 yards and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Calvin Keovphan passed for 130 yards and two scores.

Grove will close out its pre-league schedule next Friday against its longest rival, Rancho Alamitos. The Argos then open Kappa League play on Oct. 3 against Esperanza.

On Thursday, Marina improved to 4-1 with a 21-7 win over Esperanza. The win was Vikings coach Charlie DeGantvoort’s 100th victory.

Francis Saporito passed for two scores and rushed for 95 yards for the Vikings.

Huntington Beach also went to 4-1 on Friday by defeating the Mayfair Monsoons 48-12.
