The suddenly warm Los Angeles Dodgers extended their lead over the second place San Diego Padres with a 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in Chavez Ravine.
Combined with the Padres’ 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox, the Blue Crew (86-67) now has a four-game lead in the National League West and clinched a playoff berth.
A four-run fifth inning was the key to Friday’s win.nTrailing 2-1, the Dodgers regained the lead on a three-run home run by Shohei Ohtani, his 52nd homer of the season. Mokie Betts followed it with his 20th homer.
Clayton Kershaw, in his final start of the 2025 regular season, went 4.1 innings, yielding four hits and two earned runs. He struck out six batters and walked four.
Home runs by Christian Moore and Denzer Guzman weren’t enough as the Los Angeles Angels lost 7-6 to the Colorado Rockies. It was their eighth consecutive defeat; they are 69-85 and fifth in the American League West.
The Halos matched the Rockies’ 10 hits. Leadoff batter Nolan Schanuel had two hits, along with Jo Adell and Moore.
Starter Mitch Farris (1-2) had a bad day. In this 4.1 innings he gave up eight hits and six earned runs. He struck out five batters and walked two.
