After three close defeats, the Garden Grove High football team is on a two-game winning streak.
On Friday night the Argonauts defeated their traditional rival Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros by 20-10 to improve to 2-3.
Rancho is now 3-2.
Star running back Quentin Pacelli rushed for 298 yards for the red-and-white, while quarterback Calvin Keovphan passed for 203 yards, completing six of 11 passes.
His top receiver was Aaron Payan, who caught two passes for 130 yards. Jayden Nunez had three catches for 40 yards.
The top defenders included Johnny Lauro with 16 tackles, along with Leland Maia with 13.
Garden Grove will now begin play in the Kappa League on Friday, Oct. 3 visiting Esperanza (also 2-3).
The Aztecs defeated Peninsula High 49-12 on Friday.
The Vaqueros will begin play in the Sigma League next Friday when they visit Estancia High of Costa Mesa. The Eagles are 4-1 after losing 28-21 to Artesia in a non-league contest.
Edison, our top High Five team, was defeated by La Serna of Whittier 23-21 to fall to 4-2.
La Serna is 3-3.
Los Amigos (3-2) lost 28-16 to Eisenhower (3-3) of Rialto.
