Five injured in helicopter crash

HYATT REGENCY in Huntington Beach.

Five people were injured when a helicopter crashed Saturday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Huntington Beach.

According to police, the incident took place around 2 p.m., with the aircraft appearing to lose control of its rear rotor and crash into the parking lot between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard near Pacific Coast Highway. Police and fire personnel responded and took control of the scene.

Some descriptions of the crash indicated the helicopter may have stuck the pedestrian bridge that crossed PCH toward the beach.

Five people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The helicopter was in the city for participation in the “Cars and Copters” event scheduled for Sunday.

The Federal Aviation Authority and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and the investigation into the cause continues.
