The long-awaited cease-fire between Israel and Hamas is in place and the exchange of hostages and prisoners has brought at least some peace to the war-torn area of Gaza.
The Associated Press is reporting that President Donald Trump, speaking at a conference of international leaders in Egypt said, “Rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part, I think we’ve done a lot of the hardest part because the rest comes together.”
Still to be resolved are “how and when” Hamas is to disarm and what means will be available to enforce that. How the area will be governed is still to be decided.
An estimated 68,123 people died in Gaza and the West Bank, with almost 180,000 wounded in the conflict. Israeli deaths are between 1,500 and 2.000.
Four arrested in Miss. mass shooting
The FBI arrested four people in connection with a mass shooting in Mississippi over the weekend that killed six people and wounded 10 others.
United Press International reports that the shootings followed a football homecoming celebration in Leland, a small town near the Kansas border.
Three men were charged with murder and a fourth with attempted murder.
Sports: Dodgers win NLCS opener, 2-1
The Los Angeles Dodgers survived a based-loaded crisis in the ninth inning and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in opening game of the National League Championship Series on Monday night.
Blake Snell pitched eight shutout innings for the Blue Crew, yielding only one hit.
A scoreless tie was broken when Freddie Freeman’s solo home run in the sixth gave LA the lead, which they extended to 2-0 in the top of the ninth when Mookie Betts drove in another run with a based-loaded walk.
The home team countered with one run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. but that was all.
