Tributes to fallen Huntington Beach residents are on the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting of the city council.
The council will take up the naming of an area near the Civic Center along Park Street as Patriot Place. It’s now the location of a plaque placed in 1991 to honor Desert Storm veterans and later the city’s 9/11 Memorial, which pays tribute to those from the Huntington Beach area who fought, died, and were prisoners of war.
The naming of Patriot Place was suggested by Mayor Casey McKeon and Councilmember Pat Burns.
Also on Tuesday night, the council will consider a proposed resolution to designate Sept. 18 annually to be “Kolby Aipa Day,” in honor of a local man and prominent surfer killed in a traffic accident on Aug, 5, 2025.
The council will meet with a closed session at 4:30 p.m. in a closed session and at 6 p.m. with a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue).
