The cyclist, a resident of Huntington Beach, was found unconscious in the roadway. Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene, but the cyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Subaru, a 20-year-old Huntington Beach man, was uninjured. He cooperated with investigators and impairment doesn’t appear to be a factor with him. It’s unknown if impairment was a factor with the cyclist.
The preliminary investigation appears to show that the bicyclist was traveling southbound on OPCH and began to merge into traffic to make an eastbound turn onto Newland Street. The Subaru was also traveling southbound on PCH when the two collided.
