Mariners knot up Crestview; Oilers perfect in Sunset

PACIFICA defeated El Modena of Orange 10-8 on Saturday and then beat Cypress 4-3 to tie up the Crestview League race (GGUSD photo).

The Pacifica Mariner softball team turned the Crestview League into a deadlock with a 4-3 win over regional rival Cypress on Tuesday.

With the win, the Mariners are 4-3 in league action (14-8 overall), tied with the Centurions, who are also 4-3 in league and 14-8 overall.

The M’s have five more Crestview contests left on the league schedule, and face the Cents one more time, hosting them on Thursday, April 30.

Bolsa Grande’s softball team is red-hot, winning seven of eight games and leading the league; they’re 12-4 overall.

In second place is Magnolia at 5-2 in the GGL. Bolsa will next face La Quinta (2-2 in league, 3-10 overall on Wednesday.

In baseball action, Huntington Beach improved to 10-0 in the Sunset League with a 16-4 win over Fountain Valley on Tuesday. The Oilers are 14-4-1.

The two teams will play again on Wednesday and Friday.

Second place Newport Harbor (10-2) will have its last chance to catch Huntington on April 27, 29 and May 1.

Garden Grove’s baseball team won a key Orange Coast League game on Tuesday, edging Valencia High of Placentia 1-0. The Argonauts are now 7-1 in league and 12-6 overall. Valencia (5-2, 9-7) dropped into second place.

But it’s not over yet. The Tigers and Argos meet one more time on Friday with the league crown still a possibility.
