The cause of a hazardous materials leak odor found

DECONTAMINATION at a hazardous materials incident in Huntington Beach by Huntington Beach Fire Department. Two persons were taken to local hospitals for evaluvation (HBFD/714FIREPHOTO).

The cause of a hazardous material incident in Huntington Beach last week has been determined.

According to the Huntington Beach Fire Department, the incident was in the 16000 block of Viewpoint Lane (west of Beach Boulevard). A small electronic tracking device had been cut open, exposing an internal lithium battery and releasing an odor.

Six people reporting minor symptoms were decontaminated on the scene. Two were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

The HBFD’s Hazardous Materials – with help from from Anaheim Fire & Rescue’s Hazmat Team – conducted an assessment of the scene and “no ongoing hazard was identified.”
