The Pacifica softball team defeated El Modena 12-7 on Tuesday, breaking open a 4-4 game by outscoring the Vanguards 8-3 the rest of the way.
Mattea Stern was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and one run driven in. Leyla Ayres was 2-for-5 with four runs driven in with two doubles.
The M’s are rated 33rd in the state and 16th in the CIF-SS. At our deadline they are locked in a three-way tie for first in the Crestview League as La Habra, Pacifica and El Modena each finished with 7-5 conference records.
The Garden Grove High baseball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday losing 6-3 to the Century Centurions.
That followed a 6-0 win over the Santa Ana Saints on Tuesday. The Argonauts have clinched the Orange Coast League with an 11-1 mark and an overall 19-9 record.
Oilers advance in lacrosse
The Huntington Beach High girls’ lacrosse team has advanced to the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals Thursday with an 8-7 win over Edison in the quarterfinals.
Ella Jones scored four goals for the orange-and-black. Madison Tran led the scoring for the Chargers.
Huntington will visit Corona del Mar in the semifinal on Saturday. In their league battle, Huntington defeated the Sea Kings 9-4 on April 16. The Oilers are Sunset League champs. Corona del Mar finished third.
In boys’ lacrosse on Wednesday, Huntington Beach (12-8 overall) was edged by Los Alamitos 13-12 in the CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinals.
That was a reversal of an April 1 clash, as the Oilers prevailed 10-6.
