The Huntington Beach High Oiler baseball team is nearing another championship, and almost certainly a high national ranking at this, the close of the 2026 hardball season.
The orange-and-black defeated Corona High 11-3 on Thursday, and advanced to the CIF State Regional title game against the winner of the contest between La Mirada and Cathedral Catholic of San Diego.
With a win on Saturday, the Oilers (24-8-1) will be the Southern California champs. MaxPreps has them ranked ninth in the Golden State and 69th nationally.
Against Corona, HBHS pounded out 13 hits, including a home run by senior second-baseman Jared Grinflinger and a triple by Owen Bone.
Pitching five innings and getting the win was junior Tanner Brown, who yielded just two runs, neither of them earned. He struck out six Panthers and walked two.
