Car plunges into bay, driver lives

WHERE the car went into the bay in Huntington Harbour (HBFD photo).

The boats in the water of the Huntington Harbour bay were joined – accidentally – by an automobile on Tuesday morning.

According to the Huntington Beach Fire Department, the vehicle left the dock and plunged into the water by the Bay Club Condominiums.

The only person in the automobile was able to get out of the submerged car and swim to the surface before emergency personnel could arrive.

HBFD firefighters and the HBFD Marine Safety Dive Team responded to the scene to make certain there wasn’t anyone else in the underwater vehicle.
The patient was evaluated at the scene and taken to a local hospital.

The HBFD and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol are conferring on how to best safely remove the automobile from the water.
