Two Garden Grove residents were hospitalized after an early morning fire Friday. According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the GGFD, they were treated at the scene by firefighter/paramedics and then transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange where they are listed in stable condition.

The blaze was a residential structure fire in the 12500 block of Woodland Street near Lampson Avenue around 3:29 a.m. Arriving firefighters saw flames and heavy smoke showing from the single-family home. They forced entry into the house and contained the fire enough to search the house.

There they found an elderly woman trapped in a bedroom. Fortunately, said Capt. Nguyen, the closed door kept the smoke at bay. Firefighters rescued the woman and she was treated for smoke inhalation. A caregiver who lives in a back house on the property and who tried to get the woman out of the house also suffered from smoke inhalation.

The fire is considered to be accidental and damage to the structure is estimated at $100,000 with $20,000 loss to contents. Firefighters noted there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
