Edison High remained atop the CIF-SS Division 3 football poll for Week Three. The Chargers (3-0) are one of three local teams ranked in the polls released Monday.Rated number nine in Division 8 was Garden Grove (2-1), down from sixth last week. In Division 13, Orange (3-0) is in sportsbriefsthe eighth position. In the girls’ volleyball poll released Monday, Edison and Huntington Beach are rated third and sixth in Division 1. They are the only local teams ranked, but La Quinta received some votes in the Division 5 poll and Garden Grove in the Division 7 poll.The cross country polls on Monday showed Ocean View 10th in Division 3 for boys. On the girls’ side, Bolsa Grande is seventh in Division 3.

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8-1 Monday night at the Big A. The game was angelslogoclose until the seventh and eight innings when the M’s scored six runs. Ricky Nolasco (5-14) took the loss, giving up six hits and four earned runs in six plus innings. The Angels totaled six hits and were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.On Tuesday, the Angels (63-80) will send Alex Meyer (0-2) to face the M’s (78-68) in the second game of the series. The Halos remain in fourth place in the American League West. The Mariners are in third.

ramshelmetIt wasn’t very impressive start for the Los Angeles Rams Monday night. In a nationally-televised game, the team was skunked 28-0 by the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara. Starting LA quarterback Case Keenum was ineffective, completing 17-of-35 passes for 130 yards. He was intercepted twice. Todd Gurley, last year’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, carried the ball 17 times for 47 yards. The Rams (0-1) will make their 2016 home debut next Sunday when they host the Seattle Seahawks (1-0) at the Coliseum in Los Angeles.
