14 are displaced after a morning fire

A fire Saturday morning at an apartment complex in Garden Grove did an estimated $155,000 in damage and displaced 14 people. According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Garden Grove Fire Department, the incident was in the 12000 block of Bayport Street when the first alarm sounded at 9:06 a.m.

Arriving firefighters saw smoke showing from an upstairs unit of the two-story structure. Together with other personnel, these firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in 13 minutes. The fire was confined to the unit where it started, but there was some water damage to the unit below.

There were no injuries, but 11 adults and three children were displaced from their homes, and the Red Cross was contacted for assistance in providing temporary housing.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $130,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents. Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. The GGFD received assistance from the Orange Fire Department and Anaheim Fire and Rescue.
